Submission rules explained

We will now try to fill in the gaps and help you better understand these rules.
The bulk of the overarching rules are pretty self-explanatory; use a Nikon camera, use one photograph, keep the EXIF data intact or at least let us know that you used a Nikon camera and don’t crop your images to hell. I mean even the Nikon QV-1000C (the first Nikon electronic analogue still camera) managed to kick out 720 pixel images.

We ask that your photographs show good use of basic camera skills as listen in the rules. We are pretty lenient on this one as we want people to get the opportunity for constructive critique. Should we ever decline an image for this reason we will explain exactly why so the photographer can work on increasing the skills required in the areas at fault.

Certain types of "hate" art will not be accepted. Graphic depictions that debase women, or children, will not be accepted. This is a community of Nikon artists, and will not be used as a political or social statement platform. Another self-explanatory part of the rules that relates directly to the Deviant art rules themselves. Violators will be declined and reported to Deviant art staff.

The following break down what is expected as submissions for each gallery folder:



At Everything-Nikon we pride ourselves on being inclusive of all members who possess a Nikon camera; whether it be a compact Coolpix, top of the range DSLR or 35mm film.  We also pride ourselves on being a Group that showcases exactly what these cameras can do in the hands of a competent photographer. This is so a new Nikon owner or someone thinking of choosing a Nikon can see what is possible with these cameras without having to look past layers of manipulation.

We accept images of all standards so you can see great art and get feedback on what you have captured from likeminded artists who understand the equipment you are using the best. However, there are times that we will decline photograph submissions to our Gallery. We always provide a reason for each decline, but we would like to take the time to detail some of those reasons why we do this so that you don’t become discouraged should we happen to decline one of your submissions.  Keep in mind that we’re trying to maintain a Gallery that showcases photographs that have minimal processing, coming from the camera with as little work as possible.

Photomanipulations – Strictly put, if you have classified your photo as a photomanipulation, we will decline it.  You’ve recognized that there has either something added, removed or even manipulated so heavily in the original photograph that it’s no longer a photograph, but now a work of digital art.  We respect the time, dedication and artistry involved in creating these pieces but since it’s no longer a photograph, we ask that you be aware of your classifications as it will cause the artwork to be declined.

Texture/Bokeh/Layers —Along the same line as photomanipulations, if you have added textures to the photo, put bokeh in or added layers on the photo to give it a certain cross-processed feel or tone, then we will decline the photo.  We do understand that it is possible to get most of these effects in preproduction but in limited time and allot of submissions added a week we sometimes decline these by accident so please do send us a message explaining what you did and we can look into it.

Selective Desaturation - This is where the entire photo is black and white except for a single object or colour (as seen above). This is a very nice technique for isolating a subject but goes beyond the minimum editing allowed for this gallery.

HDR -In simple terms HDR isn't accepted. However, this is one of those situations where it becomes subjective to the Everything-Nikon admins and we have let several photos through because the work of HDR is so subtle that it’s hardly noticeable.  Photos (similar to above) will be declined because of the amount of processing,  not to mention the fact that it requires multiple photographs to make an HDR in the first thus detracting from the pure nature of the photography we aim to showcase here.  

multiple exposures in one image Any type of image that uses multiple exposures is not allowed as a submission. This can encompass:
HDR photographs but as the link isn't immediately obvious we have kept them separate to better explain.
Panorama images mesh multiple photographs to create a wider perspective than the camera can produce.
Having a collage or multiple photographs framed together (as above) or parts of other images added to another such as adding a different sky to a landscape.
All are examples of using more than one photograph or exposure in a single image.


Now after a collection of things we do not accept it is nice to let you know what we do accept!
Minor adjustments such as white balance, curves, levels, sharpening and even dodging and burning are all things that we accept to the galleries. However, when you begin to work on the photo too much, it starts to detract from the pure image that you captured which is what we want to showcase. What it all boils down to is subtlety. If you can edit in such a way that it looks like you changed nothing between shooting and submitting then we will accept it.


This gallery folder enables photographers who spend a little more time on their computers or in the darkroom share their creations with you.
We ask that Image should not be a collage of many photographs. in this instance we are thinking of the more narrow meaning of the word. We will accept HDR and Panorama images where interlacing has been used to make one larger or higher definition image. What we do not accept is parts of different images being added together, this is photomanipulation whether in an obvious or subtle form.
It still stands that if your image is in the photomanipulation category it will not be accepted into either of the photograph galleries.
Should we be sent an image that looks to be beyond what we believe is possible without straying into the bounds of photomanipulation (one hell of a grey line that) we may ask to see the original image that it should still be recognisable to. The original image can be privately shared from your stash to save you sharing images you did not want to. This is a quick and easy way of resolving a submission issue and one we have used to much success in the past.


This gallery folder was created so you could share a picture of your camera and the kit you use. Some members chose to introduce themselves or show their camera in other creative ways. Drawn images, models or even poetry have been used to share members love for Nikon so feel free to go wild here and show your creative side and the camera you love.  


We decline photographs when we believe one of the above rules for submission have been breached.
If you honestly think we have made a mistake then please don't be upset and just let us know. We are all friendly volunteers and will gladly discuss our reasons with you and hopefully we can find out what you did and maybe add your work to our galleries after all.
Even if your photograph does not meet our submission rules that doesn't make it a bad work of art. We have hundreds of affiliates who accept forms of art drawn from photographs who will be all too pleased to share your image to other likeminded artists in the same field.
